Dodgy eye gene

I mentioned in a previous post that I enter a fair amount of competitions which got me thinking about everything I've ever won:
  • Sims 3 game a fews ago via a magazine called 'Sugar' s website
  • Tickets to a Topshop Bandstand Picnic in Hyde Park, again a few years ago and also through the same website- funnily enough this was before my days of working in Topshop or ever thinking/wanting to!
  • Collection 2000 mascara, lipstick and eyeliners through a competition on their website about 6 monthes ago
  • An iPad 2! Slightly bigger and better than everything else, I was literally crying with happiness when I won my baby! I get the emails sent to me from my local radio station and they were running a competition to win an iPad, I entered the night before it closed and on the Friday morning I was called and told I'd won, which was then broadcast on the radio. Insane x10. I was so close to not answering the phone since I was in a rush and the number was withheld- I can't even think how gutting it would have been if I hadn't answered it!
  • I won the iPad at the end of January, and it was probably only a week or two later that I won the Charles Worthington one
So there you go, proof that you can actually win these competitions!

In other news, managed to spend my free period this morning having a cheeky Morrisons fry up breakfast with Danielle, and in the afternoon went to look at glasses- not good. I can see perfectly well but I do have one eye noticeably weaker than the other so I've spent the last week cursing everyone in my family for passing on the dodgy eye gene as pretty much everyone wears glasses. I have nothing against eye wear, but I look like a complete fool in them. And fool is sadly an understatement. Spotted a half decent pair though and I get about £40 off for being a youngunn' which isn't too shabby. I think as soon as they're bad enough though I'll splash out on a pair of Oliver Peoples  like the ones Zooey Deschanel wears in New Girl,
because obviously wearing the same glasses will turn me into this beauty. Right?

Mish mash

Bit of a mish mash today of just things from the past week. Got these aztec nail wraps when I was in Stevenage at the weekend, only £4.50! Think I'm going to save them till my birthday weekend so I'll keep you posted on that one. Also when I was there I bought these boat shoes from beloved Primark for the mighty fine price of £8, so cuuuute; and I got the necklace from there a few weeks ago for a couple of pounds which I wear practically every time I'm in work. Finally stumbled upon Tumblr the other day and saw this tattoo which I just can't stop looking at, it's so beautiful, maybe something for a year or twos time as my parents would probably murder me if I got that now. The bag and shirt are from Romwe, I'd quickly previously looked at their website but it was all displayed in dollars and I pretty much thought dollar to pounds was 1:1. Yeah, it's not, so everything was much cheaper than I first assumed, yay! Going to try and persuade my brother to get me the shirt for my birthday and might end up buying the bag if I get any money.
And at school for my EPQ project I'm making a recipe book of desserts so of course I have to try every single one and test the best. Who said 6th form was rubbish?!

Charles Worthington 'Volume'

Charles Worthington 'Volume' Limited Edition Set

I can't quite remember how I ended up winning this set, I don't go actively searching out competitions but whenever I see one and like the look of it I enter it- and I'm glad I did! A lot of   brands post competitions on their Facebook and Twitter pages so if you 'Like' or 'follow' them then they end up on your news feed- which is how I saw this one. I was a runner up in a competition to do with the BAFTA's and as a runner up I got send this lovely hair set consisting of shampoo, conditioner and bounce spray. For the record, I have thick but very light and fluffy curly/wavy/flyaway hair that's a bit of a furball and for the past 5 years or so I've always try to tame it into submission with serums and blow drying and straightening, and after allll that, the slightest hint of humidity in the air and it's poofed back to fluffy. Irritating is an understatement.

So my backwards logic when trying these was that maybe the volume would combat the fluff and make it nice and thick and bouncy- I basically didn't have much hope for them. But, after trying them I was pleasantly surprised, no miracles but even after blow drying my hair just looked much healthier and a more natural straight if that makes sense.I can imagine on people with thinner hair or just hair that isn't so crazy that this would work really well. It is quite expensive for what it is, Boots sell each product for £5.19, however it's currently 2 for £6 so well worth trying it at the moment!

Oh Mr Darcy

Thought I'd better explain why I chose my blog name, for those who hadn't already guessed it is in reference to a certain Pride and Prejudice character. I take English Literature for A level and although I've always been a bookworm, I'd never really branched into the classics before and this was the first book we read in class. Those who know a little about it will know the main focus is supposed to be on Elizabeth Bennet as an outspoken woman in a time where a woman's purpose was to look pretty and marry a rich husband, and Elizabeth as a character challenged these views. I won't get into to why or I won't stop but I really disliked Elizabeth, the way she spends the whole book being very cynical on love, judgemental even though she 'prides' herself on being open minded doesn't work with me and I was much more drawn to the character of Darcy. I think my favourite quote ever is something he says:

'I certainly have not the talent in which some people possess, of conversing easily with those I have never seen before. I cannot catch their tone of conversation, or appear interested in their concerns, as I often see done.'

Love it! I feel it really relates to me, when I know the background of someone and feel comfortable around them I'm so confident, but put me in a situation where everyone else already knows each other and I fall apart. I guess I'm pretty opinionated but I learnt a long time ago that there's no need to voice a lot of them, and one of my main hates is the falseness of so many girls my age; can't keep a friend for more than a minute, pretend they like someone/hate someone because that's what the crowds doing.... just not me. Not sure if all that ramble makes sense but I hope someone else feels the same way as me!

147 days

After a lot of debate my holiday this summer with my friends is all booked! And even though it is 147 days till I go (couldn't contain my excitement and downloaded a countdown app) I couldn't resist having a cheeky look at all the lovely spring/summer clothes that have come into the shops. At 5'4 I've always been pretty against maxis/jumpsuits as I just don't think they'll suit me but if I see those two beauties next time I go to Matalan the temptation to try them on will just be too much! Might have to take a little trip to the shops this weekend....

Lilac

After spotting Mollie King from The Saturdays in an article in the Daily Mail, I just knew I'd seen that dress before!

....And I had! The coral coloured one had come into the branch of Topshop I work in the other week, and when I had a quick look on the website I saw the lime and lilac colours as well. Now I'm just hoping the lilac one comes into store so I can get it on my uniform allowance, one of the perks of working in a clothes shop! I think this is the kind of dress you can dress right up with some heels or keep nice casual with sandals and a trilby so I'm really hoping it looks good one! I'll keep you posted, until then

Blogging Bandwaggon

I've been lusting over the Jeffrey Campbell Litas for a little while, talk about jumping on the blogging bandwaggon much! But as much as I love them, I don't think my bank account would so I've been having a little search to see to if I can find any cheap clones- and Missguided turned up trumps, love is an understatement!

Now I'm notoriously not a shoe girl but I'm ridiculously tempted by these beauties. Only downside is I had my heart set on the burgundy real JC's and I can't find any lookalikes </3 So my search will continue, but until then I can have a quick peek at these every now and again.
I think the black suede look ones are my fave, predictably the ones that are sold out! Although a lot of the colours are quite bright, this Spring/Summer is all about the colour, brights and pastels, and I can actually see myself wearing those lime ones with more neutral clothes or going colour crazy and doing a bit of clashing. Which would you get or would you only ever get the real thing?

So this is me

Hello, hola, bonjour
I'm going to look back at this in years to come and cringe at myself but hey, for now, this is me! Thought I'd start with the basics for my very basic first post;

Who?
My name is Georgia Alyssa Murray, I'm 16- 11/03/95, and I'm from Hertfordshire in the UK. I'm sure as soon as you read my age you thought oh, just a kid. But if there's one thing you should know about me is that I'm a bit of an old head on young shoulders I suppose so please don't assume I'm a naïve, reckless teenager!

What?
In all honesty, I'm not quite sure what my blog will be about, I guess I'll just let it run its course. That said, I plan for it to probably sway to a fashion blog, but I want a bit more than that so I'll probably end up adding my life story in as we go.

When?
Well today's date is Friday 17th February 2012 so I guess that's when! But after reading loads of blogs for the past 3/4 monthes and contemplating starting up my own, I guess it's now or never.

Where?
I live in Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire, which is about a half hour train away from Kings Cross Station in London. I'm currently at 6th form studying English Literature, Law and PE and I work in my local Topshop.

Why?
I guess I've been inspired by some of the big names in blogging. I love writing and hope to take PR at university next year, hopefully and eventually crossing over to the lethal world of fashion buying (a girl can dream) and so I hope that in a year or twos time I will have created something to be proud of and to maybe give me a slight stepping stone into the world I wish to be in.

Ciao for now,
xoxo
